Violent Rant

This is a violent rant.

To the young asian girl who ALMOST knocked me down with her car earilier..

Fuck You.

Yes that's right, Fuck you. And only you.
Oh.. but if I didn't see wrongly and you had a passenger next to you.. fuck her toO.

What in Jesus' name were you thinking or doing huh???
Obviously NOT looking where you were going eh, you dumb bitch.

I was about to cross the pedestrian (zebra) crossing at my uni.
Mind you, I'm not one of those stupid people who would dash across the road.. thinking "oh its a pedestrian crossing, hell yea I got every right to cross it. Cars, STOP FOR ME.) - No, not me.

I'm the more sensible one who knows that cars are painful when they hit you and will generally, almost always kill you.

As always, I would stop and wait for the cars to slow down first before I make my move..
The car in the other lane stopped - Good.
HER car was slowing down and almost came to a complete stop at the crossing - GOOD..... until I made my move and started to cross.....

Then she SUDDENLY decided to SPEED up and (what seemed to be the situation!) KNOCK ME DOWN.

I'm sorry.. but are you a stupid asian girl or just BLIND?! - I'm guessing both.

OBVIOUSLY she WASN'T looking WHERE she was GOING and OBVIOUSLY didn't have any sense of control over the car.
For crying out loud, she didn't even bother to apply the brakes when she saw me!
Her car was literally CENTIMETRES from my legs.
C'MON.. is it that hard to spot all 1.86m of ME???

I literally had to engage a burst of speed and did one of those martial-arts-kinda dodging manovres. I'm not here to brag but seriously.. if I didn't move as quickly as I did..

YOU WOULD'VE HAD BLOOD ON YOUR FUCKIN' PETITE LIL' HANDS YOU AR-TARD.

You were a "P" plate.. which means you had successfully passed your driving test and have clocked your 25hrs worth of required driving... HAHA. what a joke. Really?
Seems to me you probably banged your tester and had some junkie complete the 25hrs for you.
Pathetic.

It is girls like YOU who make the general female population look BADDD and make those guys think, "GIRLS CAN'T DRIVE FOR FUCK." Its people like YOU. YOU.

Don't worry.. you haven't totally tainted my image of female drivers. I still have respect for them. I believe both sexes have their good drivers and their fucked up drivers.
You just pulled down a point for your sex. But don't worry.. I only hate you.

There is NO WAY IN HELL my life will be ended by a fuckin' lil' YOUNG PRAT like you who hasn't got a clue HOW to drive ok? - NEVER.

Enough said

Ip Man - Celebrated Kung Fu Master of The Legend

Finally, I've managed to distract myself from Left 4 Dead (Oops..) and sit down to do a review on this epic film.

Why Epic?
For two reasons really:
1) Master of Bruce Lee
2) Donnie Yen

You put these two together, and with the aid of Director Yip Wai Shun and Action Director Sammo Hung - You get the biggest chinese Epic of 2008 (or.. of all time?).

In fact, to me it was the Best film of 2008.
I'm not kidding here.
To me, its even better than HUGE western blockbusters like Transformers and (dare I say?) The Dark Knight! =X

Don't get me wrong.. those two films blew me away and I was immensely impressed and overwhelmed by them (4.5 / 5 from mE)

But Ip Man?
This gets a full 5/5 from mE.
I've not felt so strongly about a movie for a long time since.. Superman Returns?
But even this is more than that!

Seriously.

Whilst the other blockbusters blew my mind and captivated me with so much excitement and adrenaline, Ip Man did ALL those.. and so much more.

The action sequences were mind-blowingly intense and it kept my eyes glued and fixated (quite literally) to the cinema screens (yes, screenSSS - I watched it twice in the theatres) as well as my Television one (about 4 - 5 times thus far =X)

But more importantly, it was also the emotional parts of the film that truly swayed me.
I could go on and on about this film forever.. but I think its best to just let you all watch it (if you haven't) and hopefully, you will all know what I mean.

To quote two female friends of mine, they said this film appeals more to the male sex rather than the females. And its not just because of all the bish-bash kung fu spectacles, its got something to do with that "male pride/ego/satisfaction" thingy.. whatever you wanna call it. Hard to describe in words really.

Personally, I actually think that's quite true too.
To me, the kung fu was near flawless. And everytime I see the fight scenes, especially during the two epic moments (10 black belts scene & the final fight), my whole being seems to be drawn into the film and its like you're experiencing that exact moment during that era.. the emotions, the drama, the passion, the action..

~ Finale ~

Without fail, everytime I watch those two fight sequences, I would be literally sitting at the edge of my seat, eyes trying to get as much of the swift action as possible, and filled with adrenaline. And I swear, if anyone had disturbed me or even talked to me during those moments.. I'd probably growl and bark at them without any hesitance.. and hate them.. for about 10 sec maybe. xD

Now some people might argue - Hey, don't you get bored watching the same sequences over & over again?

Well no, absolutely not.
(Until I've watched it a hundred times then maybe la.. xD)

And I'll tell you why.
Apart from the skillful display of proper chinese kung fu, every fight (again, especially those two mentioned above) has a deep emotional attachment behind it.
Every punch, every kick.. has passion and heart surged from it (from Ip Man of course).

And the action is only half of what makes this film a fiver for me.
Yip Wai Shun really directed this film such that it covered the important aspects of Ip Man's life and how his fists helped to unify the people of Fo Shan, China. How he became an important icon to the small town and the immense respect he gained from the people.

Yip started the film by portraying the good life Grandmaster Ip had in Fo Shan during the thriving times.
He then later proceeded to showcase the dark and trying times of the people of China during the Japanese Occupation.

The scene in the film (that followed after Ip had defeated the Northerner) depicting this, really striked a chord in me. It was one of the emotional points of the movie that would touch the hearts of most, if not all chinese people especially those who had lived through that era..

Just as important, one of the features that gave so much life and emotion to the film is the heart-pumpin'-drum-beatin' music throughout the fights, coupled with the mellow "Er-hu" drama pieces that just amps every emotional scene and adds so much "ding-ding~" value to them.

Everytime I listen to the drum-filled mp3 tracks of those pieces, I immediately begin to get all excited about the film again and start to recollect the fight scenes and such.

Hahaha.. I'm such a child. >.<

This is more than just your usual "chinese kung fu" bish-bash.
Its the story of the life of the man who moulded Bruce Lee and provided the initial stepping stones from which he became one of the world's biggest legendary icons.

Without Ip Man, Bruce might not have been and achieved what he did.
Thus, the story is not only compelling but also important - especially to the fervent fans of Lee.

I personally feel everyone in this film portrayed their characters really well. From Donnie Yen all the way to his little boy. By that, I mean they could act out the emotions that this film had aimed to deliver.

~ General Miura ~
(This guy acted in GTO! As a student named Murai. Notice the similarity in both names? Coincidence? lol)

~ Ip's loving wife ~

~ Master Lin - the Northerner ~

To sum it up, I suppose this film makes me proud to be a chinese. Its one of those that make you realise - Hey, my culture and heritage can be really inspiring and that I could actually learn a few lessons from them.

Whoo.. that's quite alot of ramblings from me. hahaha. =P
I noticed I used alot of "emotions" in this post. =X
But seriously, its this reason that makes me simply ADORE and LOVE this film to bits~
I mean, a film can be full of explosive action and superb CGI effects, but if it lacks any emotional value.. then chances are I'll not remember it at all once I leave the theatre.

As most of my dear friends know, I am the sort of person who focuses alot on the details of emotion.. And no surprise too, seeing as how I am quite one.

But don't get me wrong, being a person who pays close attention to emotions doesn't mean I'm a softie.
Try to take advantage or tick me off and I WILL bite your head off clean.
Then again, trust in me and you will always have a friend in me.. ever ready.. ever willing.. always there.

~ The bullies ~

Oh, just for the record:

Direction - 5/5
Action Direction - 5/5
Storyline - 5/5 (duh)
"Holy-shit" moments - 5/5
Adrenaline pumpin' - 5/5
Chinese - 5/5
Emotional value - hmm.. go figure.

Epic.

For those who totally disagree with what I just said for the past hour or so, do feel free to keep your comments to yourself. =)

Oh, and eat a %&#* too..

=)

Note: If you haven't seen and are planning to watch the film, its best not to view the videos below.. coz I think it'll spoil the fun for you =D

~ Epic Moments ~

Ip Man vs 10 Black Belts

(I do apologise for the lack of subtitles here. This video didn't have any but it was the better quality one out there.)

Basically, Ip asked to fight 10 Japs as a means to avenge the deaths of two of his close friends. You can sense the anger in each of his hard-hitting punches.

At the end of the fight, the General asks Ip to return again - Ip replies "I'm not here for the rice". (because any chinese who could defeat a Jap fighter would get a bag of rice as a reward)
The General then asks his name and Ip replies, "I'm just a Chinese"

In both instances, the interpreter intentionally faked Ip's reply to the General (sayin' what he wanted to hear) This is obviously to save Ip from getting shot on the spot.

Final Fight
(Ip Man vs General Miura)

"Although Martial Arts involves armed forces, Chinese martial arts is Confucian in spirit. The virtue of martial arts is benevolence." - Grandmaster Ip Man
